For the global Tetris championship, Red Bull decided to make a finale beyond the screen — in the sky. Our mission was to create a live, interactive drone spectacle. We transformed 4,000 drones into the world’s first aerial gaming interface above the Dubai Frame, where every move by the players controlled the drones in real-time.

Key Challenge in Creating Interactive Drone Show

Interactive technology is what sets Lumasky apart in the drone show industry, and this drone show in Dubai had its own specifics. As our developer explains, “Players competing for milliseconds needed minimal input lag.” The key technical challenge was eliminating latency — the delay between a button press and the movement of giant, luminous Tetriminos in the sky. It required months of refining Lumasky’s technology to make the game both visible and competitively playable at a professional level.

From Concept to “Dubai Frame” Test, and Final Show

A critical rehearsal with 800 drones inside the Dubai Frame proved the concept. This test verified signal integrity and safe navigation near the landmark. Most importantly, it demonstrated error-free gameplay in real time. Even battling 80% humidity that pushed our laptops to the limit, the core drone systems performed well. This built the confidence and trust we needed for the main event.

Finally, the historic Red Bull Tetris World Final transformed the Dubai Frame into the world’s largest interactive game board. During the final match, drones executed every player move instantly and without error, totally exciting the players and crowds of spectators.

With a huge buzz in global media, this tech case of live aerial interactivity marked a sure breakthrough. And Lumasky team is both honored and thrilled to be part of it.

A New Paradigm for Drone Light Shows

This legendary drone show for Red Bull Tetris marked a paradigm shift. It moved drones from building static animations to becoming pixels in a live, responsive display. As our developer puts it, “We can take any data from the real world and turn it into magic with drones.” The project proves that interactive drones create deeply immersive experiences, turning audiences from spectators into participants in a live-generated spectacle.
