What’s the cost of a failure when the President watches your drone show? What if at the same time it is being broadcasted live nationwide? Our team had no right to screw up Independence Day in Bishkek.
Yet everyone in the events knows: anything that can go wrong will go wrong, and at the worst possible time.
The night before the show we were asked to launch it from another location. Behind our ‘okay’ to the customer stood a pack of problems to deal with:
- task a 950-drone swarm to reach correct air positioning while taking off from a different spot
- run new test flights during the only night left
- define new timing and scheme of traffic closure, since drones must not flight above people and roads
- protect our drones from fireworks debris, as the preceding pyro show was set off right above our drone matrix on the ground.
To cut a long story short, we made it. Everything was fixed overnight, and the next day we delivered a spectacular error-free drone light show for the people of Kyrgyzstan. It became a true national memory for 50,000 viewers in the square, hundreds of thousands of them watching it broadcasted, and the President of Kyrgyzstan himself.
