After 20 years of anticipation, Egypt unveiled the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo. The country’s largest cultural project in decades, it needed a ceremony that matched the importance and scale of the occasion.

Among other event elements, a 5,000 drone display helped history come alive above the pyramids.

During the Lumasky drone show at the opening of the museum in Egypt, drones form a figure in the night sky resembling a hunter from a constellation, with glowing stars around. The illuminated buildings of the museum complex are visible below.

Centering a Drone Above the Pyramid Peak

Our special pre-show mission was to position our 3 flash drones directly above the three pyramid apexes to align with Orion’s Belt. Despite challenging winds on the Giza Plateau and strict UNESCO regulations (flying over sensitive heritage needs authorization), we spent 2 days performing careful tests and adjusting the drone positioning. Finally, we captured the perfect synchronized shot of drones and lasers beaming up from the pyramids ー later featured in the opening broadcast.

Designing a Spectacle That Matches the Event’s Scale

For the Grand Egyptian Museum’s historic opening, we blended technology and heritage in a mesmerizing drone spectacle. 5,000 drones synced with lasers, video mapping and live orchestra featured iconic artifacts from Tutankhamun’s collection and the scenes from Egyptian mythology.

The celebration turned into a real worldwide sensation. Video coverage of a drone show only, according to our estimates, soared past 70 million views. It hit local and global headlines, perfectly positioning the museum on the world stage.

Elevating Global Events with Iconic Drone Shows

This groundbreaking drone show in Egypt, just like a drone show for Disney opening in Abu Dhabi, proved the technology’s power to transform local events into global spectacles. What exactly makes drone shows a go-to choice for ambitious organizers of high-profile celebrations:

  • incredible mix of art and high-tech format
  • synchronization with multiple parts of the event
  • compliance with the highest security protocols for top officials
  • potential to impress millions offline and online.
