First Ever Light Painting Drone Show: Van Gogh Tribute

Another Breakthrough in Drone Shows

For the first time in the world, an unprecedented technology was used in drone light shows: drone light painting broadcasted on a screen in real time.

his groundbreaking show was a tribute to Van Gogh’s masterpieces at an exclusive art connoisseur party in Dubai, UAE, in October 2024.

How Drone Light Painting Works

For an exclusive art lovers’ meeting, Lumasky team decided to push the boundaries of standard drone shows.

We launched what looked like a typical drone show at first. With the only difference ー the drones moved in chaos and didn’t show any image. In the meantime, the camera filmed their choreography with a long exposure, and projected it onto a huge, hologauze screen, almost invisible in the darkness! And then, wow, Van Gogh’s iconic artwork emerged in the night desert air.

To craft a recognizable display, we used detailed algorithms that meticulously mimicked the artist’s brushstrokes with 1,000 drones. Accompanied by violin, they produced an unmatched aesthetic, sparking discussions on the groundbreaking technology even more than on Van Gogh’s legacy.

Behind the Scenes of Breakthrough

To make this breakthrough, 34 Lumasky professionals worked on the Van Gogh drone show over 4 weeks. They handled planning, animation, flight tests, equipment delivery, and permits, as well as collaborated closely with the event hosts to create a flawless experience for art connoisseurs.

Where Else Light Painting with Drones Can Be Used

In fact, drone light painting has potential that goes far beyond art events.

Imagine projecting images onto buildings or natural landscapes to create immersive performances that blend art with the environment. This innovation holds limitless possibilities for sports events, brand activations, and cultural festivals. Display a new product, or a winner’s name above the stadium, and raise the level of crowds’ anticipation and excitement to extraordinary levels.
